My son Greg told me about this place, and he took me here for fathers day. We traveled an hour from Bellingham, and it was well worth it! The Chicken was simply amazing! The fried okra was awesome ... and the fries were the best I have ever had. The service was awesome as well. It only took 15 minutes for a freshly made meal. You can tell that they make it all fresh after you order. The prices were great too.

The food was absolutely delicious. We tried a bit of everything. The fried pickles is a must. The Mac and cheese and strips were a great combo. The strawberry lemonade very tasty and the milkshakes did not disappoint.

I’m definitely gonna finish the rest at home, I am not easily impressed by generic catfish but this is anything but Generic. I absolutely love cat fish. Coming from someone who lives in the middle of nowhere Texas! I loved it! This was so good. I’m thoroughly impressed. Thank you.

Love this place! I’m from Mississippi and I have to say there’s some southern soul cooking going on here! This is the closest to home you will get. I love that the owner is back there grinding along with his staff and coming out to greet customers. I’m a huge fan of their catfish! No one else has legit catfish on the island. Gumbo wheww straight fire

Yeah wow their fried chicken tenders are friggin delicious, no joke! Perfectly crispy, not an over amount of breading like some places and man oh man they melt in your mouth. Their max n cheese is real cheese too. Not the velveta cream kind, real cheese. Don’t see that too often anywhere. The fries were also real homemade kind too. I don’t get a chance to try their coleslaw, next time tho. I Didn’t have to wait because I called my order in ahead and it was ready 5min before they said it would be ready, nice n hot n fresh. Prices seemed reasonable to me especially for “real” food, not fresh frozen. I dropped a pin on this place I’ll be back.

Okay, so best chicken with or without bones!!! We have been eating at Hales for about 4years now, since the day after moving to Oak Harbor. We'd been unpacking all day and needed sustenance!! We fortunately chose Hales. The chicken is always so moist! The batter is flavor without 'out flavoring' the chicken. All of their dipping sauces are great, but the 'Crack' sauce is in a class by itself. We love the FRIED OKRA , it's tender and delicious. The FRIED PICKLES are amazing crispy on the outside and entirely 'pickly' on the inside! Their beingets are also so good. Too good!! So order without fear and enjoy with gusto! Everything we have tried is amazing!!!!

The food was really good. The shrimp poboy was delicious- not an exact match but impressive, and the Mac and cheese was proper and well seasoned. I wasn’t expecting much in this small town in terms of soul food, so I was pleasantly surprised, especially because I’m from New Orleans! But the chicken tenders were well seasoned and perfectly fried and the music and vibes in the small restaurant were cozy. The fresh lemonade was a tad sour, but it was an easy fix with a sugar packet. I would def recommend this place for some good home cooked soul food!

We had 2 and 3 piece combos tonight and we just had to say it was so delicious! It’s so rare to find good southern food up here. The chicken strips were seasoned well and moist yet crunchy. 10/10. The Mac and cheese was delicious with a good cheese pull. 13/10. The fries were good and the coleslaw was good too. The sweet tea was very sweet, it reminded me of my late mothers. Also the lobby had good music playing and the front desk girls were very fast and kind. We can’t wait to eat here again, it’s our new date splurge spot.
